5.3.10.2 Who needs to know what?

In general, people should be informed about the overall goals and objectives of the ORV programme, details of ORV campaigns and related issues, including the importance of pet and livestock vaccination (see sections 5.3.9.1; 5.3.9.2;5.3.10.1; 5.3.10.4).

Physicians should be given precise instructions from regional public health services about what to do in case people come into contact with vaccine baits, taking into consideration reporting obligations and WHO recommendations for PEP.

Veterinarians should be instructed to provide information on vaccine safety and counselling in cases where pet animals and livestock come into contact with vaccine baits.

Hunters and wildlife service staff should be informed about local collection points for submission of carcasses for rabies surveillance and monitoring of ORV campaigns, and why and how hunting dogs should be kept on a leash.
