5.3.4.1 Where do I need to distribute vaccine baits?

The fox is an opportunistic generalist that can be found everywhere where food is available. Furthermore, the fox needs access to water and shelter. In other words, foxes can basically be found everywhere, and baits should be distributed in any suitable fox habitat except for alpine regions (>2000 m), desert or swamp-like areas.

Nowadays, foxes can also be found in (semi-) urban areas, and the distribution of baits in these areas is considered an essential complementary measure. However, it needs careful consideration due to the high probability that humans (esp. children) will come into contact with the baits. Therefore, aerial distribution needs special consideration if it is in close proximity to highly developed areas with large human populations.
