5.3.4.4 Is there a need to adjust the bait density?

Besides the issue of fox density as discussed in section 5.3.4.3, the important matter of bait competitors needs to be considered. This is especially true when there are other carnivores such as intra-guild competitors with identical or overlapping food preferences living in the same area.

Bait removal by these species may have a negative effect on the vaccination coverage of the fox population. One way to counteract this problem is to increase bait density or to more homogenously distribute baits in the field. It may be necessary to adjust the bait density to fit the objectives of your ORV programme.

However, there is an upper limited beyond which increasing bait density does not have an effect anymore (for more details see here).
