5.3.6.2 What kind of equipment do I need?

It is essential to store baits in a central location with sufficient cooling systems, e.g. freezers (< -20 °C) or others (+4°C) depending on the vaccine used, until they are distributed in the field. Power supplies should be secured by adequate back-up systems.

Furthermore, maps (1:250.000 or less) or small-GPS devices for any person involved in distributing the vaccine baits are needed to orientate, fix individual vaccination areas, and mark (if required) position where baits were distributed. For individual transportation of vaccine baits, cool boxes should be used (they are not always required but are preferred).

Examination gloves to prevent direct contact with vaccine baits need to be provided for any person involved in distributing the vaccine baits. If baits are not distributed on foot, cars or other vehicles should be made available.
