What kind of equipment needs to be installed?

As a minimum standard, aircraft should be equipped with an up-to-date Global Positioning System (GPS) as well as electronic and calibrated maps. Before vaccine baits can be distributed, the aircraft will need to be modified. If baits are distributed by hand from aircraft, a minimum requirement will be a table / funnel connected to a vertical tube which leads to the outside, through which baits will be dropped manually.

It should be installed by removing the back seats. Flight services currently can use more sophisticated computer-supported technical solutions for bait dropping, depending on the size of the area to be covered and the bait density to be applied. In North America, aircraft are sometimes equipped with automatic band-conveyors for bait distribution, whereas in Europe a fully automated dropping device with film containers is used.

These devices require a computer, a remote control for the dropping device, a control unit and a data logger. There should also be enough room for storage of baits. Any adaptation of aircraft may need prior approval and supplementary certificates (see section 3.2.11).
